We've been waiting in Petersburg, making plans, doing chores, and sitting around. We decided on staying a bit longer, waiting for sunshine in a day and then heading out to LeConte glacier only a 10 miles away from Petersburg. Kevin and Steve had seen this prior to Cindy and Kathy, so this gave the girls a chance to see it, and the guys said it was one of the more spectacular of all the glaciers seen. LeConte is the southernmost glacier in the northern hemisphere that calves into the sea.

LeConte Glacier did not disappoint. Just before entering the channel for the glacier, we got the call on the windlass (it will ship out of Bellingham this afternoon!), planned how to get it back, and then headed in there for several hours. Once as close as we could get the big boat, we put down kayaks, and the kids and Kathy set out to explore.

So many people bring home fresh caught fish from Alaska. We have not been doing any fishing really since we can't even call ourselves beginners at this point. Anyway, we are bringing home some glacier ice in our freezer. Talk about long lasting ice cube, this stuff is amazing and lasts a very long time.

Sea Lions love basking in the sun on ice bergs. They normally put their pups on them as there is no predators out there in May and June. |
