August 5, 2019 - Foggy Bay AK

Well, this is our last day in Alaska, tomorrow we head south to British Columbia.  It has been a rushed, but amazing trip.  Our transit today from Meyers Chuck took us past Ketchikan.  We thought we might get fuel and even stay the night.  What a crazy passage and busy place so we decided we could make it in a long day to Foggy Bay.  The fuel dock had no room and there was a 100' commercial fishing boat waiting "in line" for his turn.  So, we opted to skip getting fuel here.  We have just about enough fuel to get home, but that would be cutting it very close.  We will take on some more diesel in Canada somewhere.

4 Cruise Ships in Ketchikan shown here.  One was anchored out to our starboard.
Float planes, tour boats for the passengers, "duck boat" tours, craziness!

On our transit and past Ketchikan, we experienced some fog.  We had heard in the weather forecast that there would be in the morning but it never burned off.  As we entered Foggy Bay, the fog stayed outside and it was nice and clear inside.  Foggy Bay was not foggy, but we could see the fog just a mile outside the bay.

Wonderful Foggy Bay anchorage (no other boats again)

Cindy went out kayaking with Kevin on drone duty.  He is our official pilot!

We got up 4 or 5 times during the night hoping for another northern lights experience but did not they never appeared.  We play games in the evenings and watch a show or movie.  We are watching the TV show LOST from the beginning, which is keeping us entertained.

It has been interesting to observe the whale sightings dwindle to almost none as we move south.  Coming out of Glacier Bay and heading south for several days we saw humpbacks continuously.  Some days we saw many dozen spouts, fins, and tails. At least 50 in a day.   Now we are lucky to see a single whale in an entire day.  What a difference.  We got to the point of not yelling out "whale at 1 O'Clock" etc. as they were always all around us.
