August 6, 2019 - Prince Rupert BC

Our transit from Foggy Bay AK to Prince Rupert BC was uneventful.  We have had very calm seas but it seems now that there is fog every day.  The transit from the north through these islands were outstanding and we wished we had time to explore.  We called the Cow Bay Marina upon approach and they mentioned that the inside of the breakwater between two sailboats would be fine for us.  We have not been used to paying such exorbitant fees for overnights but were happy to be able to get some groceries and stretch our legs in town.  This is our Canadian Customs stop so we had to stop at a marina or go to a customs dock.  Clearing customs was quick and they knew of Kevin and Steve from their way north and only wanted Cindy and Kathy’s information.  Not much else was asked and we were cleared in minutes, via cell phone.

This classic that was in front of us was backing out after we arrived.
The captain was very skilled.

This came via the tsunami from Japan

We do not have a count of the number of whales we have seen (at least 100 though)
but we are seeing less as we come south

We did a little shopping for gifts and things and then went to dinner at the Crest Motel.  It was yummy!  The view was fantastic too.

View from the restaurant, the dock we are on is toward the right window pane

Kids burgers, beef and a veggie

After dinner was time for a bit of grocery shopping as we never know what the next place will have, and this is one of the bigger towns we will pass by as we motor south for many nautical miles.

On the other side of this breakwater dock was a large cruise vessel.  It looked very nice.

In the morning as we were getting ready to leave there was a harbor master person knocking on the metal hull of the large cruise vessel and calling on the VHF.  No one was around and in an hour there was a 750ft cruise ship wanting to dock there.  We are not sure how a ship of that size would even fit there with the metal boat still on the dock.  We listened on the VHF radio as the captains of both ships conversed about the dilemma.  That captain of the large ship was worried about the prop wash hitting the smaller boat as they turned to stern in, and that captain of the smaller vessel just said he would put out extra lines.  Hahahah.  They ended up leaving the dock and after we saw that ship arriving as we were leaving, yes, it made sense.  What were they thinking?
